NSW; Corrupt cop sentenced to at least five years in jail
Former Sydney police officer MATTHEW JASPER will spend at least five years behind barsafter being sentenced for corruption.
In the New South Wales Supreme Court, Justice JOHN DUNFORD has sentenced the 32-year-oldformer Manly detective to seven years in prison with a non-parole period of five yearsfor corruption.
JASPER pleaded guilty to 13 counts of corrupt conduct at Manly Local Area Command in 2000.
Justice DUNFORD said JASPER's crimes -- which included taking bribes and stealing froma house -- were a betrayal of the trust placed in him as a police officer.
